Bloom is a new creative space for music art and conversation, using the power of social action to tackle the challenges of mental health. It's conception comes from the success of the Open Door Centre charity. I was lucky enough to have seen the progress of the service and helped out along the way, so it was a pleasure to be asked to create a brand and visual identity for this new part of their journey.
The initial challenges of this project were to understand, and help bloom itself understand it's identity. This meant lots of interesting conversation and dialogue to understand its mission, values, tone and more. This set the foundations for the visual exploration moving forward.
The symbol itself and the logo as a whole plays on many keys themes discovered from this. Ideas of hope and a sense of opportunity, as well as considering more literal aspects like the surrounding landscape. The focus of bloom is to engage the local young people of birkenhead and the wirral, providing a creative space for conversation and new opportunity. This is why we also felt it important to use bright and inspiring colours yet but retain the handmade feel. Not isolating or exclusive, but more a feeling of everyone is welcome.
The bloom building is set to open in February 2019 and I look forward to collaborating with them further as the project grows.
